It was a cool Thanksgiving morning, and many people in this country are probably spending the long weekend with their families and loved ones. I, on the other hand, woke up late and my parents were gone; since it was already the middle of the afternoon, I had to make my wake, so I spent the next 30-45 minutes getting dressed and loading the backpack. Around 1:00 pm, I headed out going somewhere, not really sure, just somewhere without much of a plan.
It's been nearly 20 years since I ate a Thanksgiving meal with cousins who now live in Dallas. My family doesn't do much around the Thanksgiving/Christmas time as far as presents and meals. We don't necessarily have to show thanks on a particular day, we are thankful everyday we have each other and we are living in a great country; however, we don't show it very well, just understood.
While on the freeway, I decided to head northwest towards the Texas panhandle and then to Colorado. This is what freedom means to me- to be on the road and heading anywhere at anytime without the anchor of responsibility. We are lucky to be living in a society where we are able to take liberties to do many things we like, but people don't utilize the freedom they have: They are slaves to their families, jobs, home, and other responsibilies. There is so much life going on all around us, we just need to take a moment to realize the world which we revolve on, not the world which we feel revolves around us.
