It's actually 28 minutes pass Mother's Day.
There are so many outdoor activities which are readily available in Anchorage: hiking, mountain climbig, mountain biking, road biking, horse riding, camping, etc. All of these activities are available within the city or just right outside the city. And everyday, there's a great view of the snow covered mountains. I'm thinking about staying here for the whole summer and even getting a dog.
I went ahead and found a room in a 4-plex and now, I have come to the end of this rainbow which has been my life for the past month. But deep inside the heart, I have the desire to hit the road again and start climbing another beautiful rainbow. Just have to catch one at the right moment. And for now, there's a place to come home, a place to take showers, a place to to lay in bed...just a simple place.
Made the move from a dumpy motel to a dumpy apartment. I'm sharing the aparment with an African-American guy, Bill, and 2 guys from Virgin Islands (West Indies), James and Thomas. James is the most considerate of the 3 and I enjoy living with him. We each have our own private room and we share the kitchen and restroom; however, the phone, out in the hallway, is shared by everyone in this building- over 10 residents. The great thing about this apartment, D, is the 4 of us do not drink, smoke, or have parties. Anyways, management doesn't allow it.
This apartment was advertised in the Anchorage Daily News as nice, quiet, drug-free, and other BS, but (again) it's a dump; "You get what you pay for" comes to mind. If I want to get a dog, I'll have to move out. The good thing about living here is no leases, even though I could do one and save $25 a month. James has been here 1.5 years, Thomas 9 months, and Bill 6 months. What it seems like is this was once a 2 room apartment, but the living room and dining rooms were converted to 2 additional rooms; hence, the room Bill and I live in are smaller than the other two. (Plus, the other two rooms have ceiling lights and closets.)
About a week ago, I met a lady who's in the Air Force, and she said there were drive by shootings in this area, Mountain View. (With a name like "Mountain View," you'd figure this would be some sort of affluent subdivision.) After being here about 4 days, I do tend to view this area as one of the poorer areas in Anchorage, but it is still very lively and livable. After saying that, I don't want to wake up tomorrow to find the Rodeo missing. Actually, the area isn't all so bad since businesses don't have burgler bars and the Safeway right across the street is opened 24 hours.
Many of the things I got for the apartment, I purchased from thrift shops such as the Salvation Army. They have a lot of useful things at those thrift shops and at such bargain prices. Even bought myself some cool used clothes. Generally, the thrift shops will frequently have some sort of sale to move older stuff, inventory, or just to offer more bargains. I highly recommend donating to Salvation Army or Goodwill, and give business to them.
