As I checked out of the Hiway Motel, the Romanian manager once again asked, "Did you stay alone?" When I confirmed, she said she would not have returned the $5.00 key deposit if someone else stayed in the room. She said something to her middle-age daughter and her daughter chuckled slightly- I am sure it was some mockery of me in her native tongue. People with small minds will do that sort of stuff, but I quickly put it behind me because I would be on the road feeling free again.
