Books and References Brought Along

Most of these books were purchased second-hand. I'd recommend a bookstore such as Half Price Books and Records to get good, used travelling books at 1/2 publisher's price or less.

The New Roadside America
Mike Wilkins, Ken Smith, and Doug Kirby
1992
Fireside
New York, New York
$13.00 US

This book contains tourist attractions throughout the United States- and some of them are quite unusual.

Handpicked Tours of North America
Philomena Rutherford, editor
1984
The Reader's Digest Association (Canada) Ld.
Montreal, Quebec
$??.?? US

This book contains information on scenic drives in the United States and Canada. But the book goes well beyond just scenic drives- it explains culture, geography, small town information, etc. I highly recommend Handpicked Tours of North America. (This book used to belong to Dorina Thompson- written inside front cover. I'm pretty sure there are more recent editions of this book.)

Indian America: A Traveller's Companion 2nd Edition
by Eagle and Walking Turtle
1991
W.W. Norton & Company, Inc
New York, New York
$17.95 US

This book contains information about Native American tribes. (I found the homemade "Hakuna Matata" card which my ex-boss's daughter, Monica, gave me before I left H.E.B. The card will stay with the book for now.)

The Complete Guide to America's National Parks
Jane Bangley McQueen, editor
1994
Fodor's Travel Publications, Inc.
New York, New York
$14.95 US

This book contains information about national parks and sites listed by state.
