Day 23 started at 8:50 am with 59,630 miles on the odometer as I left the gas station in Destruction Bay, Yukon.
Stoppped at the border of Yukon in the city of Beaver Creek and ate breakfast. When I arrived at the Alaska border, the US customs held me up and checked my background. I guess my unshaven face makes me look a little suspicious. It was a good thing they didn't examine all my stuff, I didn't want to go through reorganizing all my belongings. I gave my 2 weeks visitor VISA to the Canadian customs.
When I arrived in Alaska, the Rodeo still had it's 2% warranty (up to 60,000 miles). A 2% warranty is basically the warranty for the drive drain only, which is any any part of the vehicle that has oil running through it. After 60,000 miles, I'm on my own. The warranty for the entire vehicle expired at 50,000 miles. Isuzu has the best warranty in the business behind Lexus, but then who needs an overpriced luxury vehicle?
Most of the day after that was driving into Anchorage, a 400 mile drive. I stopped in Tok to get tourist information and fill up my gas tank. At $1.60/gallon for premium gasoline, this was still cheaper than the low-end stuff in Yukon, Canada at $2.00 US/gallon.
Some parts of the Alaska Highway was really torn up. There was a section where there were dips after dips for miles. It was a roller coaster ride from hell. Going down the mountains was really cool though; however, it's not fun to travel down the mountain with cars on your back. The Alaska Highway is truly a beautiful drive, and should be driven during the day to truly see the sights.
As I was heading towards midtown Anchorage, I saw a motel off the Glenn Highway, and turned around. I decided to stop and stay at the Artic Tern Inn for a rate of $25 a night for a week. The place is rather old and dumpy, but that's a really good deal. Surprisingly, an Oriental woman was at the counter and let me have the last room availabe. The room is actually a double room, but she was nice enough to give let me have it for the single room rate. The drawers were broken, the blanket had holes in it, the cabinets in the restrooms were broken, the front door is crooked, and there was even a mouse to go with the room.
It felt so good to take a shower after not showering for a week. I had the dirt smell from the hot pool on me and my hair was all dried up. It felt like a new start. I walked out to the local Subway and came back and went to bed.
